Welcome to InfraAmerica’s ninth annual Infrastructure Investors Forum (IIF).
The last 12 months have been particularly active in regard to infrastructure investment. Much anticipated deals such as the sale of Chicago Parking Meters, Pocahontas Parkway, and the Dulles Greenway have shown that North American transportation assets can still command high prices, despite an overall global economic slowdown.
2016 saw more than USD 21bn in brownfield transactions, according to InfraDeals data. As infrastructure funds at or near their lifecycles continue to divest assets, it is clear that an increasing number of assets will come to the market.
Low oil and gas prices continued to impact the market in 2016, but an oversupply of both - coupled with the need to transport it over increasingly larger distances - redefined the midstream sector’s parameters. At the same time, low oil and gas prices have also prompted MLPs to sell assets or seek partnerships with infrastructure investors. The North American renewables sector continues to be robust, as an increasing number of public bodies have redoubled their efforts to provide clean energy to both Canadian and US citizens. It is against this background of expansion and progress that this year’s conference takes place.
